Kuppedoddi is a small, predominantly Christian village with a population of 200-250 people. Despite its peaceful surroundings, the villagers have limited access to medical facilities, making initiatives like this camp an invaluable resource. The local church, a key pillar of the community, provided tremendous support by offering their health centre for the medical camp. The church father, a strong advocate for community well-being, actively participated by spending time with both patients and the medical team.
Comprehensive Medical Care
The medical camp was established in the church’s health centre, transforming the space into a temporary healthcare facility. The day began with the distribution of breakfast prasadam, nourishing all attendees and setting a positive tone for the activities ahead.
Before the main consultations, preliminary blood pressure and blood sugar screenings were conducted to ensure comprehensive health assessments.
Following breakfast, the medical team—comprising doctors, lab assistants, and volunteers—began consultations. Throughout the day, they provided care to more than 40 patients, addressing various health concerns including ENT issues, orthopedic problems, blood pressure, diabetes, eye care, and pediatric needs.
Addressing Health Challenges
The medical team encountered several common health challenges, particularly among the elderly population, including hypertension, diabetes, and eye-related issues. Patients received immediate treatment, medicines, and medical advice, while some underwent diagnostic tests. Notably, several individuals were returning for follow-up care—a positive indication that surrounding villages are becoming increasingly aware of the healthcare services available at the Sri Sathya Sai Vaidyalayam.
Community Response
The villagers expressed profound gratitude for the team’s dedication and professionalism. The church’s support, combined with the active involvement of volunteers, contributed to the camp’s resounding success. As the camp concluded, the team began planning future visits to ensure continued support. The day closed with Mangala Aarathi to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, seeking blessings for the health and prosperity of the village.
This medical camp in Kuppedoddi stands as a testament to the power of service and compassion, combining professional healthcare with a genuine desire to uplift rural communities in need. The event not only addressed immediate medical concerns but also strengthened the bonds between all participants.
