The celebration of Sri Ramanavami took place with great enthusiasm at the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam in Uyyamballi on 30th March, 2023. The first event of the new year began with the divine Abhishekam and Sita-Rama Kalyanam at the ashram.
The morning program started with the unveiling of beautiful idols of Sri Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman in the Sadashivam hall. The idols were carefully adorned with dhoopam, aarti, and flowers in preparation for the Abhishekam. The grand Abhishekam performed that morning inspired all the devotees present to turn their hearts and minds towards God just by witnessing the event.
Priests from various parts of South India had gathered to perform the Abhishekam as part of the morning program. The Tavil-Nadaswaram troupe’s rendition of the Kriti ‘Bhavayami Raghuramam’ during the Abhishekam reminded everyone of the great epic, Ramayana – the story of Lord Sri Rama, along with Laksmana, Sita Devi, and Hanuman. The Abhishekam was performed with water, milk, curd, coconut water, golden honey, and chandana, kumkumam, and turmeric, followed by flower alankaram with different flowers such as malli, kanakaambaram, and arali after each Abhishekam. After the curtains closed, melodious bhajans in praise of Sri Rama were sung, followed by kritis by the Tavil-Nadaswaram troupe. The curtains then opened to reveal Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman, adorned with majestic vastram, aarbharanam, and flower garlands, leaving everyone in awe of the beauty of the Gods in front of them. The morning program concluded with Mangala Aarti and Prasadam.
The Sita-Rama Kalyanam marked the evening programme. The priests performed the ritualistic kalyanam festivities, including dancing with flower baskets placed on their heads to the song ‘Maalaimaatrinal‘, dancing with a ball of flowers, snake dance to ‘magudi‘ music, all as offerings to the divine couple. Milk and fruits were offered to the Lords, followed by Rakshabandhanam, Pattu Vastram, Kannikaadaanam, tying of the thaali to Sita Devi, placing of the Kireetam, and Nalangu.
Following the Rama-Sita Kalyanam, Naama Ramayanam and Hanuman Chalisa were chanted. Hundreds of people from the surrounding villages and the city of Bangalore had gathered and participated in the chanting, and the entire place was filled with divine energy. The programme concluded with Mangala Aarti and Prasadam.
