Embracing Divine Festivity: Christmas Celebrations at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam

The festive spirit at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam resonated with joy as Christmas was celebrated on the 24th and 25th of December, 2023. This year’s final celebration was marked by decorations, heartfelt speeches, Christmas carols, and the much-awaited arrival of Santa Claus.

The true celebration of Christmas entails embracing and living out the message of Jesus – practicing selfless love, nurturing compassion, and striving to be consistently virtuous. This resonant message echoes in the teachings of the beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, emphasizing the significance of selfless acts, compassion, and the pursuit of goodness in all aspects of life.

Christmas celebrations at Vaatsalyam dwelled on internalising the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Illuminating Christmas Eve in Sadashivam Hall

The inaugural  programme for Christmas eve commenced with the lighting of the lamp in the Sadashivam hall. Timeless Christmas carols “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World,” were sung, spreading the warmth of the season.

The Christmas tree, adorned with gifts, Santa Claus figurines, Christmas hats and stars was the central piece in the hall, and beside it was placed the carefully-put together nativity scene of Jesus’s birth.

After the carols, brother Harshith KS, an alumni of Sri Sathya Sai Educational Institutions and a Chartered Accountant by profession, took the stage, to speak about about Lord Jesus and His Selflessness, and its resonance with Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s teachings.

The Christmas Eve session concluded with bhajans, Mangala Aarti and prasadam.

A Joyous Christmas Morning: Carols, Santa Claus, and Messages of Christ

Christmas morning commenced with the joyous tradition of cake cutting and the harmonious singing of carols. The festive spirit echoed as everyone joined in to clap and sing ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas.’ With the rendition of the famous carol “Dashing Through The Snow,” a volunteer, dressed as Santa Claus, danced in, spreading joy, and distributed chocolates to all the children and attendees present.

This was followed by a speech by sister Charanya Kumar on Jesus and compassion. She shared profound insights into Jesus’s compassion through heartfelt stories, including the prodigal son’s love, forgiveness, and sacrificial instances.

Sister Charanya Kumar reflects on the compassion of Jesus through poignant stories.

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, “Being a messenger of Sathya Sai means to live up to the message of service, morality and integrity”. As we celebrate the birth of this prodigal son of God, we are collectively resolving to become the sons and daughters of Bhagawan that He will always be proud of.

The radiant Christmas celebrations at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam concluded with divine Mangala Aarti and the shared joy of partaking in prasadam.

In the spirit of Christmas, let’s carry forward the love, service, and compassion into the coming year, embodying the true essence of this festive season throughout our lives.

As the echoes of Christmas joy resonate around, may the teachings of Jesus and our beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba continue to illuminate our hearts, guiding us towards a year filled with love, compassion, and selfless service.
