The dawn of India’s 79th Independence Day began in the most energising way at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam – with the “Cycle for Change – Save Forests, Sustain Life” Cyclathon 2025. This unique initiative was not just about covering kilometres on bicycles; it was about celebrating freedom in its truest form – freedom from limitations, from fear, and from anything that holds us back from serving society with strength and joy. This year’s celebration carried special significance, as it also marked 100 days from Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s 100th Birthday.
Cycling for Change: Save Forests, Sustain Life
At exactly 7:00 AM, more than 50 spirited children from the Sri Sathya Sai Gnyana Dayini programme, along with Acharyas and volunteers, set off from the scenic Sangama View Point. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they pedalled together, embracing both the smooth stretches and the occasional challenging ramps with determination and bright smiles.
The ride was supported by a Kshema Dayini ambulance and the Foundation’s bus, travelling alongside to ensure safety and provide assistance whenever needed. A mid-route snack and refreshment break gave everyone the chance to recharge before the final stretch.
By the time they reached the finish line, the children weren’t just completing a ride – they were celebrating resilience, teamwork, and the joy of purposeful movement.
From Pedals to Patriotism
Upon return, everyone gathered for the flag-hoisting ceremony—a poignant reminder of the sacrifices that earned us our freedom.
Independence, as Bhagawan has beautifully explained, is Swatantra – not merely freedom from external rule, but being guided by one’s own Tantra, one’s own heart. True freedom is liberation from the bondage of the senses, freedom from selfishness, and the ability to live in harmony with nature and with one another.
On this day of national pride, the cyclathon served as a living reminder that independence comes with responsibility – to protect our Motherland, to nurture her forests, to keep her air pure, and to live as one family united in love.
Celebrating Achievements
After the flag hoisting, all the cyclathon participants were awarded certificates and medals – tokens of appreciation for their effort, perseverance, and joyful spirit. The pride on their faces spoke volumes about the sense of accomplishment they carried home.
Commemorating 100 days to Bhagawan’s Birthday
The day also marked the release of a special music video, “Hari Bhajan Bina Sukha Shanti Nahi”, commemorating 100 days to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s 100th Birthday. As the soulful bhajan filled the hall, it moved the audience to quiet reflection, gratitude, and renewed devotion. Many described the experience as deeply uplifting, with the music evoking both tears and smiles – a reminder of Bhagawan’s eternal message to live with love, purpose, and harmony.
The morning’s celebrations ended with Aarathi.
