Ganesha Chaturthi Celebrations at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam

The first Ganesha Chathurthi at the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam was celebrated with great reverence and exuberance as all the devotees gathered joyously to offer their collective prayers to Lord Ganesha.

A divine spectacle – Abhishekam of Sri Sathyaatmatva Mahaganapathy

The morning of Ganesha Chaturthi began with a divine and vibrant abhishekam ceremony for Sri Sathyaatmatva Mahaganapathy. Milk, curd, honey, ghee, and an assortment of fruits were lovingly offered to Lord Ganesha during the abhishekam. Each offering was a divine spectacle, and all those present felt blessed to witness it.

This was followed by aromatic offerings of turmeric, vibhuthi, kumkuma, and sandalwood paste to Mahaganapathy, while Vedic texts like Atharvashirsha Mantra, Purusha Suktham, Sri Rudram, and Durga Suktham were chanted by the gathering. The abhishekam concluded with an elaborate and awe-inspiring decoration of Sri Sathyaatmatva Mahaganapathy, accompanied by devotional bhajans sung in unison. Sandalwood paste covered Ganesha’s body, and speckles of kumkuma beautifully adorned His face and trunk, adding exquisite detail.

A silk dhoti, silver kavacham, and flower garlands embellished Mahaganapathy, leaving everyone captivated by His radiant beauty.

After the abhishekam, a variety of traditional delicacies, including modaka, ladoo, holige, karigadubu, and sweet pongal, were offered to the Lord. The morning abhishekam ended with all the devotees circumambulating around Sri Sathyaatmatva Mahaganapathy and partaking in the prasadam.

A joyous Pallaki Utsavam for Mahaganapathy

The evening of Ganesh Chaturthi commenced with a festive pallaki procession for the utsava murthy (processional idol) of Lord Ganesha. Utsava Murthy Mahaganapathy was placed atop a vibrant pallaki, and brothers performed the traditional mallari dance while affectionately cradling Lord Ganesha.
On the pallaki, Ganesha was gently carried around the entire Vaatsalyam campus, accompanied by Vedic chants and devotional bhajans sung by the devotees, creating a joyous atmosphere. Everyone present paid their respects to Naga Devata, Sri Krishna, Sri Rama, and Bhaktha Anjaneeya as they circled the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam, concluding their journey at the Sadashivam hall.

A loving offering of speeches and music

The evening’s program continued with speeches by Smt. Prabhavathi N and Sri. Burzis Pithawala, sharing how Ganesha had inspired them in their lives. Smt. Prabhavathi narrated stories from Ganesha’s life and how they had instilled faith in the Lord within her. Sri. Burzis spoke about how Ganesha’s inspiration had led him to help children gain access to education, inspiring others to do the same.

The Ganesh Chaturthi celebration concluded with Naada Samarpan, a melodious musical offering. The program began with a Carnatic song ‘Vandisuvudaadiyali Gananathana’ welcoming Ganesha as the God who is prayed to first. A Marathi song ‘Hey Gajavadana’ followed, during which the traditional Ganesha Aarthi was sung, spreading joy to all listeners. The next three songs paid homage to Devi, Lord Shiva, and Lord Subramania with a soulful rendition of ‘Mata Kalika’ on the flute, ‘Nirvana Shatakam’ and a folk song titled ‘Valli Kannavan’.

The last song was a beloved composition of Bhagawan Sathya Sai Baba, ‘Sri Ganesha Shivuni Kumara’, which left all those gathered filled with gratitude and love for a joyous and memorable day.
