The advent of the new year, Ugadi, was celebrated at the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam, Uyyamballi with great spiritual fervour. Spiritual talks, devotional singing and community gathering marked the auspicious beginning for the upcoming year, Sobhakritu.

The morning festivities began with the chanting of the Sri Rudram and Durga Suktam by the priests in the Sadashivam hall. Devotional bhajans followed, filling the entirety of the bhajan hall and beyond with divine music. Devotees from the local villages and the city of Bangalore joined in and sang together for the welfare of the entire world. Brother Keerthan Bhat, an alumnus of the Sri Sathya Sai Educational Instutitions at Alike delivered a speech about how Bhagawan’s love is present and available to His children in plenty. He spoke eloquently about how everyone of us as His children should be involved in Seva and Prema to transform ourselves and serve others. The morning session concluded with Maha Mangala Aarti.

The evening festivities began after the vedam chanting, with a speech by sister Srividhya Sivakumar, an alumnus of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of higher Learning, Anantapur Campus. Sister Srividhya spoke about what it means to be available for Swami and how being available for God’s work isn’t a ‘one and done’ event but means keeping faith and choosing God repeatedly every moment of our lives.

This was followed by a string of devotional songs presented by the bhajan group with renditions of great bhaktas such as Sri Purandara Dasa, Sri Thygaraja Swami, Sant Eknath and Sri Arunagirinadar. The song ‘Hum Tere Hain Sai’ was a reminder to all present of the promise that we will stand with God, hand in hand, come what may.
