The Sri Sathya Sai Kshema Dayini team conducted a comprehensive health camp at Hegganuru village, located 12 kilometres from Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam recently. A dedicated team of five medical professionals and 25+ volunteers from Sri Sathya Sai Vaidyalayam provided free medical services to the village’s residents, embodying Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s principle of selfless love and service.
The local government school campus served as the venue for the medical camp, graciously offered by the village administration. The camp operated from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, equipped with essential medical devices including digital BP monitors, glucometers, and basic diagnostic equipment.
About Hegganuru
Hegganuru, a moderately developed agricultural village, is home to approximately 900 residents spread across 300 households. The village features basic infrastructure including paved roads, electricity, and a government primary school, though access to regular healthcare facilities remains limited. The majority of its residents are engaged in agricultural activities, forming the backbone of the local economy.
A Day of Service and Care
The day began with the distribution of prasadam (breakfast) to over 100 beneficiaries, setting a positive tone for the camp. Local volunteers played a crucial role in organising the queue system and maintaining smooth operations throughout the day.
Many villagers, especially middle-aged and elderly individuals, came forth to participate in the health screening.
The medical camp offered a wide range of services, including primary health screening encompassing blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, basic eye examinations, and general health assessments. Throughout the day, more than 40 beneficiaries received thorough medical attention.
The team identified various health conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, eye-related issues, and orthopaedic conditions.
Each patient received free medications as needed, along with detailed prescription cards to ensure proper understanding and compliance. The camp not only addressed immediate health needs but also emphasised the importance of ongoing health management.
A Successful Initiative with Lasting Impact
As the camp concluded, the spirit of gratitude filled the air. Villagers expressed heartfelt thanks to the volunteers and medical staff for their commitment to enhancing community health. The initiative exemplified the power of compassion and service in creating a positive impact in rural areas. The day ended with Mangal Arathi to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
As the team departed, they carried with them not just the satisfaction of service rendered, but also the warm promises to return, ensuring that this day of healing becomes part of a continuing journey of care and compassion.
The true measure of the camp’s success, however, lay not just in the medications dispensed or consultations provided, but in the bridge of trust and care it built between medical professionals and the rural community.
