Sri Varamahalakshmi Puja celebrations at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam was marked by two significant events: the commencement of the 99th Birthday celebrations of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and the celebration of Sri Varamahalakshmi Vratam at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam. Both events were celebrated with devotion, gratitude and selfless prayers, setting a vibrant tone for the festivities.

The morning marked the beginning of the 99-day countdown to Bhagawan’s 99th Birthday. The celebration commenced with joyful speeches and reflections on the transformative impact of the Sri Sathya Sai Shubha Dayini and Sri Sathya Sai Prema Dayini initiatives.

Sister Kalpana Heblekar spoke about the transformative impact of the Shubha Dayini programme on its 108 women participants. She highlighted how the initiative has renewed their faith in God and humanity, and fostered a sisterhood of support and sustenance. The village women have found a new lease of life after enrolling in the Shubha Dayini skill training initiative, she added. Notably, the Sri Sathya Sai Shubha Dayini programme has recently received international accreditation from the Grace Ladies Global Academy, US, for its for outstanding achievements in the completion of the skill training for transformative livelihood for women and young adults from remote villages in India, across five skill courses and 13 villages.

This was followed by a short speech by sister Innila Bose from Chennai. She eloquently described how women volunteers in Chennai regularly come together under the aegis of the Sri Sathya Sai Prema Dayini initiative to serve the Narayanas (a term for the underprivileged) in the city.

The morning programme concluded with bhajans and mangala aarti, setting an exciting tone for the upcoming 99th Birthday celebrations.

Following the morning session, a lively mehendi competition took place for the children and instructors of Sri Sathya Sai Gnyana Dayini. The participants, both young and old, showcased their creativity by exploring both traditional and abstract designs, each striving to create their best artwork. A panel of judges evaluated the designs with great care and appreciation.

The evening was dedicated to the grand celebration of Sri Varamahalakshmi Vratam. The event began with Ganesha Puja and proceeded through various rituals, including mantra chanting, Akshata Puja, and Maha Mangala Aarti to Mother Varamahalakshmi.

The auspicious occasion drew over 250 women participants, comprising the 108 women from Sri Sathya Sai Shubha Dayini, young seekers from Sri Sathya Sai Gnyana Dayini, and women from surrounding villages. The sacred atmosphere of Sadashivam Hall resonated with prayerful mantra chanting, melodious nadaswaram music, and soul-stirring bhajans.

Collectively, the gathering sought the blessings of Mother Mahalakshmi, who stood tall, dressed in yellow, radiant with celestial elegance and effulgence.

As the evening drew to a close, the celebrations left everyone with a renewed sense of devotion and spirituality. Both the morning and evening programmes beautifully reflected the essence of faith, gratitude, and unity.
