A Healthier Tomorrow: Kshema Dayini Initiative at Bommasandra Village

On December 10, 2023, the Sri Sathya Sai Premaarpitham Foundation brought joy and support to Bommasandra village through its first-ever Grama Seva event.  The event saw enthusiastic participation from the local community of Bommasandra and the Foundation’s volunteers. The Foundation’s flagship service initiatives – Sri Sathya Sai Prema Dayini (breakfast seva), Sri Sathya Sai Kshema Dayini (medical camp) and a briefing on upcoming Sri Sathya Sai Shubha Dayini (skill development workshops for women) were conducted, inspired by the love and mission of our beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Bommasandra Village: Water Scarcity, Limited Access, and Uncertain Livelihoods

Nestled by the Cauvery riverbed, Bommasandra, a quaint village with only 10 houses and around 50 residents, faces immediate challenges. Basic amenities are scarce, purified drinking water is absent, and essential services are hard to access. The village struggles with uncertain incomes as men are mostly involved in goat rearing, and women engage in daily wage labour. The lack of proper transportation infrastructure makes life difficult, especially for school children who have to walk 4 kilometres to reach the main road. Medical care is a rarity, with the nearest hospital located 25 kilometres away.

The Sri Sathya Sai Premaarpitham Foundation aims to uplift the standards of lives and living in such tribal villages by addressing the holistic needs of its inhabitants.

Bommasandra is the 2nd village adopted by the Foundation in its efforts to bring a transformative change in the rural landscape in the vicinity of the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam. This transformation will be brought about by the four Dayini initiatives – Kshema Dayini, Prema Dayini, Shubha Dayini and Gyana Dayini.

Community Upliftment in Action: Seva Activities Unfold at the Village

The day in Bommasandra village began with a heartwarming breakfast seva, where everyone, from elders to children, enjoyed a nutritious and lovingly prepared breakfast prasadam from the Sri Sathya Sai Svedanika kitchen at the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam. Before breakfast, all the villagers, young and old, joined in chanting the Bramhaarpanam prayer.

The morning continued with an energetic bhajan session, where nearly 40 villagers, including children, joyfully clapped and sang in praise of the Lord.

Caring for Health: Kshema Dayini Medical Camp

Addressing the healthcare needs of the villagers, a medical camp was set up as part of the Sri Sathya Sai Kshema Dayini initiative. Basic check-ups, injections, wound treatments, and tablets were provided, with follow-ups scheduled for the next week, including specialised care from ophthalmologists and gynaecologists.

Empowering Women: Briefing about the Shubha Dayini Skill Development Workshops

Post the medical camp, a survey and session for conducting skill development workshops for women were organised as part of the Sri Sathya Sai Shubha Dayini initiative. The women expressed their eagerness to learn various skills, demonstrating a keen interest in participating in the workshops for a chance at financial independence and a brighter future.

The day’s seva at Bommasandra left the villagers with beaming smiles as the day concluded with an Aarti, symbolising the harmonious blend of service, spirituality, and community uplift.
