What began as a modest after-school tuition initiative for a handful of village children in April 2023 has blossomed into a comprehensive academic support programme for rural students under the Sri Sathya Sai Gnyana Dayini initiative at Vaatsalyam.
Catering to over 20 students across grades 2 to 12 (Pre-University Course), this initiative offers structured lessons, regular assessments, engaging projects, and exam preparation support. The program’s impact has been profound, evident in the remarkable academic achievements and holistic development of its students. Improved grades and a newfound love for learning bear testimony to the programme’s success.
The Intent Behind Tuition Classes
While the village of Uyyamballi boasted good government schools, most children, predominantly first-generation learners, faced challenges in comprehension despite attending classes regularly. Their progress was inhibited by socio-economic factors, limited resources, and a lack of personalised attention.
After the inauguration of Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam in January 2023, volunteers engaging with these children realised the glaring gaps in their learning experiences, highlighting the urgent need for supplementary academic support. Driven by this realisation, the volunteers began informal tuition classes for the eager young minds.
Education in rural areas like Uyyamballi is crucial for empowerment, breaking the vicious cycles of poverty, and fostering community development. Nurturing these children’s academic growth would not only benefit them individually but also contribute significantly to the village’s overall progress and prosperity.
Commencement of Tuition Classes
With the blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, tuition classes commenced in April 2023. Starting with a few dedicated teachers and a handful of students, the tuition classes soon became a daily occurrence at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam, forming an integral part of the students’ regular activities.
These classes have been meticulously designed not merely to impart academic knowledge but to foster holistic development. Each session commences with a collective prayer, instilling a sense of positivity and motivating students to strive for excellence. Teachers emphasise conceptual clarity, employing relatable examples to ensure every student grasps the material. They provide individualised attention, regularly assessing understanding, reviewing school notebooks, and monitoring progress to tailor instruction effectively.
Covering a diverse range of subjects spanning English, Kannada, Mathematics, and Science across grades 2 to 12 (Pre-University Course), these classes provide a comprehensive and immersive educational experience. Students receive meticulously-prepared study materials, regular homework assignments, and frequent assessments, fostering disciplined study habits and a dedicated approach to learning.
This structured methodology not only bolsters academic proficiency but also instils invaluable life skills such as time management, perseverance, and critical thinking among the students. The classes transcend mere academic instruction, nurturing essential qualities that will serve them well in their future endeavours.
Expansion and Enhancements in Tuition Classes
As the number of students of Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam tuition classes grew, so did their impact on students’ academic journeys.
The increase in student enrollment and their efforts highlighted the need for improved infrastructure. Responding to this, new benches were introduced to ensure students’ comfort and facilitate an optimal learning environment.
The teachers also express their happiness in seeing the students study well.

While Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam tuition classes were set into full swing amongst students in Uyyamballi and the surrounding areas, significant positive changes were observed by the community, especially among the students attending these classes.
Back at home, parents and community members noted a remarkable improvement in their children’s behaviour and character development. They highlighted how the tuition classes played a pivotal role in instilling essential values such as respect for parents, teachers, and academic pursuits in the students.
“We are unable to help the children clear any doubts or explain to them. Thanks to the tuition classes, the children are engaged every day in a good way and are able to solve all their problems there. I am happy that they are doing better in tests now”, expressed one of the parents.
Another parent shared their experience, stating, “The children have understood what it means to respect all that is around them – their parents, their teachers, and their studies. We see that they work harder towards their studies and are delighted by it.”
Preparation for School and Board Examinations
As the academic year progressed, the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam tuition classes intensified their efforts, gearing up for the looming annual school examinations and the crucial board examinations for grades 5, 8, and 10 – milestones that would shape the academic trajectories of these young learners. Recognising the pivotal importance of these assessments, teachers and students alike embarked on a journey of rigorous preparation with unwavering dedication and a deep sense of purpose.
The preparation phase was meticulously designed as a comprehensive and immersive experience, encompassing intensive practice sessions that simulated real exam conditions, mock tests that provided invaluable exposure, personalised feedback that identified areas for improvement, and continuous support tailored to each student’s unique strengths and weaknesses. These multifaceted efforts aimed not only to reinforce academic concepts but also to cultivate essential exam-taking strategies, time management skills, and instil a profound sense of confidence.
With divine blessings and diligent efforts, the tuition students have demonstrated remarkable academic progress across various grade levels, achieving a 100% passing rate the past year. Many students have secured top ranks, ranging from 1st to 5th positions, in various subjects. Their dedication and the supportive learning environment have been pivotal in attaining these outstanding accomplishments.

The remarkable achievements in the examinations not only brought joy to the teachers and students but also underscored the transformative impact of the tuition classes.
