The festival of Ganesha Chaturthi, ever resplendent with grandeur and spiritual fervour, was celebrated with deep devotion at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam. The celebrations unfolded over the course of two days, beginning with sacred prayers and offerings to the Moola Moorthi of Sri Sathyaatmatva Mahaganapathy on the evening for the first day and to the Utsava moorthy, along with the Sahasra Modaka Homam in the morning of the second day. It culminated in a joyous Pallaki Utsavam and a heartfelt Nritya Samarpanam in the evening. Every ritual, chant and offering became an expression of love, gratitude and surrender at the Lotus Feet of the Divine.
Sacred Beginnings: Abhishekam and Alankaram
The festivities began on the previous evening with the splendid Abhishekam and Alankaram of the Moola Murthi of Sri Sathyatmatva Mahaganapathy, ushering in an atmosphere of auspiciousness and devotion.
On the morning of Ganesha Chaturthi, the celebrations commenced with Prarthana, followed by the sacred Sahasra Modaka Homam.
A thousand modakas were offered into the sacred fire, carrying the prayers and aspirations of all those gathered, with heartfelt wishes for universal peace and welfare.
The Utsava Murthi of Sri Sathyatmatva Mahaganapathy was then offered Maha Abhishekam with sacred dravyams and adorned in an exquisite pearl Alankaram.
As the Divine Form emerged in all splendour, devotees were captivated by his divine beauty, immersing themselves in this bliss.
The Sadashivam Hall reverberated with the auspicious strains of the Nadaswaram, interwoven with soulful bhajans and sacred mantras. Every chant, offering and prayer filled the gathering with devotion, becoming a collective expression of love and surrender.
Following the Maha Mangala Aarathi, devotees received Prasadam with hearts filled with gratitude and joy.
Pallaki Utsavam: A Divine Procession
As the day advanced, anticipation grew for the evening’s Pallaki Utsavam. The Utsava Murthi of Sri Sathyatmatva Mahaganapathy, adorned in splendour and seated gracefully upon His Mooshika, was carried in a beautiful procession around the Sadashivam hall.
The Mooshika, traditionally understood as symbolising the wavering human mind brought under the mastery of the Divine, offered a gentle reminder of the inner discipline and surrender that form an important part of spiritual life.
Accompanied by Vedic chants and heartfelt prayers, the procession became a moment of collective joy and devotion. Young and old alike came together to offer their reverence, as Aarathi and Naivedyam were offered to the Lord with love.
Nritya Samarpanam: An Offering Through Dance
The evening celebrations continued with Nritya Samarpanam, a captivating dance presentation by the students of Shilpakala Naatyashala.
The programme featured several devotional pieces, including Aigiri Nandini, Sri Vigna Rajam Bhaje and the celebrated Ganesha Pancharatnam. Through graceful movements, expressive abhinaya and vivid storytelling, the students brought alive the divine stories of Lord Ganesha and His family.
Each presentation offered the audience an opportunity to experience these timeless narrations through the beauty of dance, as the students expressed their devotion through their art.
A Blissful Conclusion
The auspicious celebrations came to a close with Mangala Aarathi to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, followed by Prasadam for all. Hearts were filled with joy, devotion and contentment as devotees carried home the blessings of the day.
The celebrations offered a gentle reminder to free the wavering mind from its restless ways and guide it towards complete surrender at Bhagawan’s Lotus Feet.
And perhaps, that is the true prayer of Ganesha Chaturthi: that as we offer our prayers to Ganesha, we also learn to place our fears, doubts and obstacles at His feet.
