Sri Krishna Janmashtami 2026 at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam unfolded over two days, bringing together sacred rituals, music, colour, and the joyful participation of devotees and children from the surrounding villages. The first day was marked by the sacred Janmashtami celebrations, with Gau Pooja, Maha Abhishekam, Alankaram, Annakootamahotsavam, and Govardhana Giri Mahotsavam. The following day brought alive the playful spirit of Krishna through Krishna Leela, as the children of Gnyana Dayini and devotees came together for games inspired by His beloved leelas.
Day One: Sri Krishna Janmashtami – A Morning of Devotion
The celebrations commenced with Gau Pooja, offering reverence to the sacred cows. The cows were lovingly honoured as symbols of purity, nourishment, and abundance. The morning also witnessed the release of a pair of white doves into the open skies, symbolising peace, purity, freedom, and the boundless joy of creation.
Maha Abhishekam and Alankaram of the Divine Couple
The sacred atmosphere deepened with the Maha Abhishekam of Godhadevi sametha Sri Venugopala Swami with sacred offerings and fragrant flowers. Accompanied by the auspicious strains of Nadaswaram and soulful bhajans, the priests performed the sacred rituals with devotion, offering prayers at the Divine Lotus Feet.
Following the Abhishekam, Godhadevi sametha Sri Venugopala Swami were beautifully adorned with silken vastrams, exquisite ornaments, and flowers. The resplendent Alankaram filled the sanctum with divine splendour, as devotees gathered to offer their prayers and receive the blessings of the Lord.
The morning festivities concluded with Mangala Aarti, offered in an atmosphere of devotion and gratitude.
Evening: Annakootamahotsavam and Govardhana Giri Mahotsavam
As evening descended, the celebrations continued with the beautiful Annakootamahotsavam, an abundant offering prepared with love for Sri Krishna. Puliyogerai, lemon rice, and other delicacies were lovingly arranged to depict Maa Yashoda feeding Bala Krishna.
The offering beautifully evoked the tender vaatsalya of Yashoda and her boundless love for her little Krishna. What appeared as a magnificent offering of food became, in essence, an offering of maternal love, reminding everyone of the sweetness with which the Divine may be approached.
The celebrations then moved into the Govardhana Giri Mahotsavam, where a magnificent floral offering to Venugopala Swami took the form of Govardhanagiri. Through flowers, devotion, and artistic expression, the beloved leela of Sri Krishna lifting Govardhana Giri was brought alive before the devotees.
The atmosphere was filled with Namasmaranam and mesmerising bhajans, as devotees and children immersed themselves in the joyful remembrance of the Lord. The presence of children dressed as little Radhas and Krishnas added innocence, colour, and the playful charm of Gokulam to the evening.
The day’s celebrations concluded with Maha Mangala Aarti and Prasadam, bringing the evening to a serene and prayerful close.
Day Two: Krishna Leela – Celebrating the Joy of Divine Play
There is something wonderfully disarming about the way Krishna plays.
In His leelas, play becomes a way of bringing hearts together, drawing everyone into an atmosphere of joy, and revealing the Divine through the simplest moments. It was in this spirit that Krishna Leela unfolded on the second day of the Janmashtami celebrations at Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam.
The morning transformed the space into a joyful playground of devotion, where the children of Gnyana Dayini, along with devotees and other children from the surrounding villages, participated wholeheartedly in games inspired by the playful world of Sri Krishna.
Games, Laughter, and Lessons from Krishna’s Leelas
The morning featured a variety of lively games, including Matka Breaking, Krishna Uvacha, Krishna Smarana, Sack Race, and Tug-of-War.
While each game brought its own share of excitement and laughter, together they carried gentle lessons of cooperation, awareness, encouragement, and remembrance. The games became little classrooms of love and togetherness, reminding the children that the spirit of play is enriched when everyone participates with joy and care.
From Playful Leela to Sacred Prayer
Amidst the lively games, soulful bhajans continued to fill the air. The joyful energy of Krishna Leela gradually flowed into a sacred Abhishekam and Alankaram of Godhadevi sametha Sri Venugopala Swami.
