With the blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the Sri Sathya Sai Vaidyalayam conducted its second free eye camp on February 18, 2024. Villagers, young and old, came from across the Shivagiri Kshetra to receive optometrists and ophthalmologist consultations at Vaidyalayam. At the Vaidyalayam, they were met with care and compassion by optometrists and ophthalmologists who examined their eyes. Free spectacles, medication, and appointments for cost-free surgeries were arranged for patients in need.
The camp served as a ray of hope, restoring the gift of vision to people from villages neighbouring the Sri Sathya Sai Vaatsalyam campus.
Village Seva Helps Identify Medical Needs
As the Sri Sathya Sai Premaarpitham Foundation reaches new villages, specialised medical needs are uncovered during the health camps. To address these needs, patients are scheduled for further consultations with specialist physicians at the Vaidyalayam hospital.
Recent medical camps held under the Sri Sathya Sai Kshema Dayini initiative in Cheelanvadi and Hoolya Hosadoddi found numerous villagers with vision impairments. Those identified were personally invited to attend the eye camp at the Vaidyalayam. Word also spread to surrounding villages, welcoming all in need of eye care to visit the hospital. Transport was also arranged on the day of the camp to aid people from far-away villages in reaching the Vaidyalayam hospital.
Eye Camp Reaches Out to More Villagers
On this blessed day, many lives in the Shivagiri Kshetra experienced Bhagawan’s love through the eye camp. Men and women, young and old, travelled to receive thorough eye examinations and compassionate treatment from the Vaidyalayam’s team of skilled optometrists and ophthalmologists.
As each patient arrived, they were greeted warmly and guided through the registration process by the volunteers. Optometrists then conducted comprehensive eye tests, carefully assessing their vision needs. For those prescribed spectacles, custom glasses would be crafted and provided during upcoming village seva. For patients requiring further eye care, tele-consultation with ophthalmologists was done, who vigilantly checked for conditions like infections and cataracts.
Free medicine was offered to provide relief, and several villagers were registered for cost-free cataract operations at an eye-specialist hospital in Bangalore. This built upon the Vaidyalayam’s previous eye camp, where five elderly villagers underwent successful, free cataract surgeries and recovered comfortably with postoperative care at Vaidyalayam.
Service to All, Vision for All
The February 18th eye camp at Sri Sathya Sai Vaidyalayam was a resounding success. As Vaidyalayam’s medical camps expand further across the region, more lives will be touched by Bhagawan Baba’s divine love and grace. The gift of sight will continue to be shared, guided by Baba’s eternal love, illuminating the way forward – not just for today’s patients but for all who await the blessing of clear vision.
